The telecommunications and IT industry finds itself in an interesting, but also very challenging dilemma when it comes to disruptive innovation:

  • On the one hand, companies in this sector are themselves drivers of many kinds of innovation and offer their customers solutions to make them faster, more efficient and more flexible; such solutions are sometimes developed and marketed at breathtaking speed, and some providers ask themselves in their sales work why customers do not adapt and use these offers much faster.
  • At the same time, however, the level of innovation and cut-throat competition within the industry is so high that a company can very quickly go from being the driver of the customers to being the hunted (and in the end, possibly, the "eaten") of its competitors.
