Holacracy is intended to reduce hierarchies and realize more agility.

The world of work is constantly changing. Many New Work approaches are emerging that can be used to reshape the world of work. Holacracy is a form of organization that aims to reduce hierarchies and achieve a flatter structure and greater agility.
Holacracy was developed by the entrepreneur Brian Robertson from Philadelphia on the basis of sociocracy. The concept promises the end of hierarchies and power structures in companies.
➡ Instead of people with different authorities, the focus is on functions and areas of activity. One person can also perform several roles. These roles are combined into circles. More complex roles can be divided into smaller circles.
➡ Managers change their role in the company. They take on the roles of “facilitators” and “enablers” and no longer those of direct decision-makers.
Holacracy has been introduced at companies such as Zappos, Medium, Buffer, Fabulous and The Ternary Softwar. It was not successful everywhere. Also, not all companies are suitable for this organizational form. It can be difficult for companies that are very process-oriented and hierarchically organized, or with business models that require particularly quick decisions.
The following are considered essential for the successful introduction of “Holacracy”:
➡ Anchoring the ideas of Holacracy in the corporate culture
➡ Clarity and transparency of the new responsibilities
Gradual and steady implementation: Holacracy should be implemented gradually and steadily to make the transition easier for everyone involved
➡ Commitment and responsibility of managers and their responsible involvement in implementation
➡ Training and involvement of employees during implementation
➡ Recognize resistance among employees and managers
When entrepreneurs align their company with Holacracy, this is an opportunity to work in a more agile and flexible way. However, it is certainly also a challenge for managers to hand over responsibility.
